Intrapenile Injection (BIMIX & TRIMIX)
Commonly and scientifically called as ICIVAD (Intracavernosal injection of Vasoactive agent) involves injecting a small amount of drug into the corpora cavernosa of the Penis so that the venous sinusoids (reservoirs) in the penis are able to retain blood in order to achieve full well sustained erection.
As shown in the image a 1 cc tuberculin syringe with very fine needle is used and its insertion is only felt as a prick in the penis and is almost painless. The drug is a combination of 2 medicines, one of which is to reduce the anxiety related inhibition of erection and the 2nd is to open up the venous sinusoids so that they can retain blood. This dual synergistic action is much more potent than the oral medications. It is especillay effective for anxious patients who might require a very low dose.
The dose and technique is taught to the patient over 3-4 sessions and the dose has to be fixed by me, as if there is overdosage or in some patients with normal physiologic functioning there can be sustained painful erection lasting for more than 4 hours( Priapsim) which will have to be reported to me immediately and treated by either aspirating the blood or by giving another injection.
This can be easily avoided if a dose is fixed via multiple sessions and interpretation of the results by an expert and in case there is a problem, prompt reporting can avoid any such problems.
Patients with a mild problem need a lower dose whereas those with more severe disease may require higher doses. This BIMIX injection doesn’t require any refrigeration and can be stored at room temperature for 3 months.
We will provide you with prefilled syringe (with appropriate dosage) in a packed plastic with a swab so that it is convenient for you to take as per requirement.
Patients with a psychogenic cause and mild disease might require its usage temporarily and later once they achieve the confidence can have intercourse without this injection. Also for patients requiring this injection for a longer time there are no side effects
These injections act after 10 minutes of injection on stimulation of the penis providing an On the go Solution for patients who have an unexpected chance of having relations.
TRIMIX injection
In patients with very severe Erectile Dysfunction BIMIX may give a suboptimal erection and for them TRIMIX which has third drug in addition to the 2 above may work. The third drug is a prostaglandin analogue which is a vasodilator (PGE1). It is much more potent but requires refrigeration.
An additional side effect with this injection can be pain sometimes and hence the dose has to be kept at the minimal to avoid pain.
Again the tailoring has to be done adequately to avoid side effect of prolonged erection. This drug has to be carried in a ice pack and then has to be kept in the refrigerator at home.
This injection is costlier than the BIMIX.
